LED Spot Light - What Are Beam Angles?
One of the things you often hear about LED Spot Light is that their beam angle is narrower than old-not only incandescent bulbs, or even newer CFLs. What does this mean and is it a problem? The angle of the beam is the angle at which the light is directed by the bulb. Thus, a small angle of 20 degrees would be suitable for a spot, focusing the light on a single small area. If you want more general lighting, spreading the light over an entire room, a wider angle, perhaps 90 degrees, would be preferable. In most home LED Spot Light situations, beam angles of 30 to 45 degrees are enough to illuminate a room comfortably. The idea that LEDs have narrow beam angles stems from older technology, as LEDs have been designed for focused light in a narrow area. Today, that is no longer true. The new technology now means that LED Spot Lights are available in a wide range of beam angles, ranging from narrow spots to wider general lighting. Some LEDs can be purchased in a range of beam angle
